Job Description

Role Overview

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented Academic StandardsOfficer to support the Curriculum Director in maintaining consistent academic standards across the school.
  • This role involves daily classroom monitoring, review of pupils’ work, evaluation of teaching and assessment practices and ensuring compliance with school policies.
  • The officer will identify strengths, highlight areas for improvement and provide professional feedback, reporting directly to the Curriculum Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily classroom observations to monitor teaching quality, pupil engagement and classroom management.
  • Ensure lessons follow the approved curriculum and schemes of work.
  • Review teachers’ marking, feedback and assessment practices for consistency and compliance with school policy.
  • Carry out regular checks of pupils’ workbooks and presentation standards.
  • Assess pupils’ understanding of concepts through lesson observations and review of classwork.
  • Provide constructive professional feedback to teachers.
  • Identify areas where teachers require support, mentoring, or development.
  • Prepare academic monitoring reports highlighting strengths, concerns, and recommended actions for the Curriculum Director.

Accountability
The officer ensures high academic standards by:

  • Maintaining consistent teaching and learning practices across the school.
  • Identifying patterns in teaching quality and curriculum delivery.
  • Escalating significant compliance concerns with recommended corrective actions to the Curriculum Director.
  • Supporting inspection readiness and strong quality assurance processes.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a Degree in Education with a minimum 5 years teaching experience, preferably in a British or international curriculum school.
  • Current or recent Headteacher, Deputy Head, or senior leadership experience.
  • Experience in lesson observation, academic monitoring and teacher supervision.
  • IT skills: proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and school management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with British curriculum assessment frameworks (Key Stages, phonics, maths mastery).
  • Experience with inspection readiness or school quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to analyse patterns in teaching quality and pupil progress.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
