Job Description

Job Summary

  • We’re seeking a talented and dedicated backend developer to join our team. You'll be the backbone of web applications, designing, developing and maintaining APIs, databases, and server-side logic to ensure seamless performance and security.
  • You'll work closely with our small founding team (including frontend and product leads), even clients to deliver robust, high-performance solutions that drive brands forward.
  • This is a hands-on role where you'll own the full backend lifecycle—from architecture to deployment—while contributing to strategic decisions in a flat, agile structure.
  • Be passionate for startups
  • Be able to teach and tutor to optimal understanding
  • Be ready to always engage

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, implement and maintain backend services using technologies like RESTful/GraphQL APIs using Node.js, Python (Django/Flask), or Java (Spring Boot) or similar frameworks to support our core web app features, ensuring they are efficient, secure and well-documented.
  • Manage database schemas, queries, and optimizations using SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) or NoSQL (MongoDB/DynamoDB) databases for high performance, scalability and data integrity, handling everything from user authentication to real-time analytics.
  • Implement secure authentication/authorization systems and data validation mechanisms (e.g., JWT, OAuth) and integrate third-party services like AWS, Stripe, or Twilio.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes, or GitHub Actions to ensure reliable deployments.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and monitor backend systems’ performance with tools like Prometheus, Datadog or New Relic, focusing on scalability for our growing user base.
  • Participate in code reviews, brainstorming sessions, and occasional frontend support to keep things moving fast.
  • Integrate third-party services and microservices to enhance application functionality and reliability.
  • Write clean, testable code with unit/integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and reliability; participate in code reviews and agile ceremonies.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and monitor production issues to maintain 99.9% uptime.
  • Collaborate on system architecture decisions, including cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Stay updated with industry trends and contributes to improving development processes.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language/framework (e.g., Node.js/Express, Python/FastAPI, Ruby on Rails or Java/Spring) and SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization tools (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for deployment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, caching (Redis), and message queues (RabbitMQ/Kafka) is a plus.
  • Passion for techstartups, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to wear multiple hats in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Solid understanding of version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and agile methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases (SQL/NoSQL) and ORM tools (e.g., Sequelize, SQLAlchemy), including query optimization.
