Job Description
Many oil field position names are unfamiliar to those outside the gas and oil industry. A roustabout, for example, performs basic unskilled and semi-skilled laboring jobs. These include maintenance and drilling tasks. Roustabouts typically acquire skills on the job and learn to handle equipment such as pumps, generators, power tools, and welding equipment. These positions on a drilling rig require no special training, just a standard high school education or GED.
