Job Description:

Sophie Michaels Consulting is currently seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our legal team as a Litigation Clerk. The Litigation Clerk will play a crucial role in supporting our legal professionals in all aspects of the litigation process, ensuring efficient case management and contributing to the success of our clients' legal matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to handling litigation tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management:
    • Assist in managing litigation cases by organizing and maintaining case files, documents, and correspondence.
    • Coordinate and schedule hearings, court appearances, and meetings with clients and legal professionals.
  • Document Preparation:
    • Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and affidavits.
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all legal documents, adhering to court rules and filing deadlines.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to ongoing litigation matters.
    • Summarize findings and present research results to legal professionals to inform case strategy.
  • Court Filings:
    • Manage the electronic and physical filing of court documents, ensuring compliance with filing requirements and deadlines.
    • Monitor case dockets and update legal professionals on case developments.
  • Client Communication:
    • Communicate with clients to obtain necessary information, provide case updates, and assist in gathering relevant documents.
    • Act as a liaison between clients and legal professionals to facilitate effective communication.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Provide general administrative support to legal professionals, including calendar management, answering phones, and organizing meetings.
    • Prepare and maintain billing records, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing for legal services.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, such as court personnel and opposing counsel, to facilitate the litigation process.
    • Work closely with attorneys and legal assistants to ensure seamless case progression.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Litigation Clerk, Legal Assistant, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and document preparation.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
